The FAITH Neighborhood Center was founded in 1972 and has been in continuous operation since opening. The Center has grown until now we have over 100 active volunteers. Our dedicated volunteers allow us to keep the costs of running the Center with a small part-time staff as low as possible.

We provide support to low income families and individuals in South Lake County– Mascotte, Groveland, Clermont, Minneola, Montverde and points in between and south to the county line.

We offer several kinds of assistance:

• Food
• Clothing, small appliances, and miscellaneous household items
• Financial support to families about to have their utilities turned off.
• Medical support in conjunction with the South Lake Community Health Center.
• Educational/Training opportunities
• Assistance in applying for food stamps, Medicaid and Emergency Assistance.

Featured Volunteer

Ellen Barker heads up the clothing department at FNC.  This department is very busy and helps many families.  Items of clothing, shoes, and household items are collected and distributed to clients without charge.

Ellen was born in Titusville, FL and lived on a dairy farm.  She moved to Arkansas and later to Orlando, and has been in Central Florida ever since.  She has two daughters and several grandchildren.

Ellen has had a wealth of experiences, managing her parent's mobile home park and the park grocery store.

She began volunteering for FNC in 2003 when it was in the old library.  She was recruited by her dear friend Ruth.  If you think we were cramped in our former space, the old library was once a home and things were very "tight".

Ellen doesn't know exactly how many hours she has spent volunteering, but they are in the thousands.

When Ellen was asked about her most memorable experiences, she cited the Adult Christmas Open House which was held for a number of years.  To see the delight on people's faces when they came to choose Christmas presents for their adult family members was amazing.  Many said that without FNC they wouldn't have anything to give for Christmas.

Thanks, Ellen, for alll of your countless hours of devotion to the community.
